Mercy For Haiti More VUSD students have joined in the international relief efforts for Haiti! Last Friday, January 29, 2010, students from Manuel F. Hernandez Elementary School organized a coin drive called “Mercy for Haiti.” They collected over $1,200; and all proceeds were donated to the American Red Cross. The most poignant moment was receiving a sealed plastic piggy bank filled to the top with commemorative coins. This was symbolic of the type of sacrifice our students made to show they care about people in such great need of our help! Stan A. Carrizosa Published: February 2, 2010
