    What is a Licensed Vocational Nurse?

    LVNs care for patients under the supervision of a doctor or registered nurse. They collect and record patient data, deliver medications, and supervise other nursing staff. LVNs work in many healthcare settings; hospitals, clinics, and private practices. This is an "invitation only" program, the items listed below are required at the time of interview:
    • Be 18 years or older at the beginning of the program
    • A valid non-expired CNA certificate to start on the 1st day of the program
    • A grade of 95% or better in an accredited Medical Terminology course within the past 5 years
    • A current and valid ID
    • A high school diploma or an equivalent certificate
      • IMPORTANT: A candidate with a foreign diploma/transcript must have it evaluated for equivalency of a high school diploma within the U.S.. This evaluation must be turned in to student services prior to your interview. (see below for Foreign Transcript Evaluation Sites)
    • Placement CTE reading score of 247 or above
    • Complete Pre-Nursing Assessment Test (PNAT) 
    Course Description
    This 48 week course provides both theory and clinical training in various healthcare settings. Class meets Monday - Friday and some Saturdays. Hours include some evenings and early mornings for clinical. Upon completion of our program, students will be eligible to take the California State Board Licensing Exam for Licensed Vocational Nursing.

    Students selected for interview complete the next steps: 
    • Pass our internal screening
    • Registration process: An application, official transcripts, and three (3) professional letters of recommendation
    Students selected for class MUST complete the next steps:
    • Attend mandatory orientation meeting
    • Attend mandatory "Boot Camp"
    • Have a physical examination, complete required immunizations, clear a background check and drug screen.
    • Proof of a valid American Health Association Healthcare Provided CPR card
    • Pay registration fees and purchase books and uniforms


    Approximate Costs
    Cost of this program for all uniform, books, supplies, background check and drug screen is approximately $10,000.

    All candidates with a foreign diploma/transcript must have it evaluated for the equivalency of a high school diploma within the U.S.. It is the student's responsibility to have their transcripts evaluated. The transcript evaluation must be turned in to Student Services prior to the LVN interview.
