Paul Belt
Board Member
Trustee Area 2
Elected: 11/2022
Term Ends: 12/11/2026

Paul Belt and his wife Debbie, a third-grade teacher, have been married for forty-four years. All four of their sons graduated from VUSD’s Golden West High School. Mr. Belt’s involvement with VUSD spans thirty-seven years.

As the executive director of Youth for Christ from 1985-2000, Mr. Belt facilitated Youth for Christ’s Divorce Recovery Groups on high school campuses for thirteen years and spent seven years as the host of radio talk show, Heart2Heart for Teens and Parents. He enjoyed assisting his wife with an after-school drama program for another thirteen years. Paul has been a guest speaker in VUSD health science classes for over twenty years, presenting How to Prepare for Marriage and the Pitfalls of Dating.

Paul grew up in Coalinga, CA where he learned the value of community and connection to exceling in education. He was the first in his family’s history to attend university. Today, he is semi-retired after more than thirty years in the non-profit sector, in which he served as a youth counselor and associate and senior pastor, the culmination of which suits well in his adjunct position as a business trainer at the College of the Sequoias Training Resource Center.

The foundation Trustee Belt acquired in grades K-12 made possible the success he experienced in college and beyond. He still recalls all sixty-seven prepositions he learned in Mr. King’s 8th grade English class. The confidence Mr. Belt gained through high achievement in academics, athletics, music, and drama; and the healthy social interactions he experienced as student body president in his middle and high school years have contributed to who he is today.

Paul looks forward to shaping district policies that establish VUSD students as life-long learners, allow parents to be involved and confident, and grant teachers and staff the freedom to be as creative as possible in the process.
