Visalia, CA – On March 1, Visalia Unified School District (VUSD) received 17 awards from the California School Public Relations Association (CalSPRA) during the organization’s annual conference. The team matched the number of awards received last year, showcasing that strategic communications continues to be a priority for Visalia Unified.

Award submissions are vetted through the association’s four-step process, that includes research, planning, implementation and evaluation. The submissions are judged against one another and the top award in each category is selected as the Award of Excellence. The VUSD team received accolades from CalSPRA for the following types of awards:

● 5 DEI Awards

● 3 Multimedia/Visual Communications

● 3 Video Awards

● 2 Branding Awards

● 1 Infographic

● 1 Education Advocacy Programs Award

● 1 Calendar Award

● 1 Social Media

“One of our core beliefs as a school district is to provide consistent, transparent, and timely communication to our students, staff, and families. I am proud to have a team who finds creative ways to share our messages and who strive for state recognition,” stated Superintendent Kirk Shrum.

During the superintendent search and community listening sessions for VUSD’s strategic plan, the community emphasized the importance of enhancing communications. Visalia Unified School District is presently developing its strategic plan, with communication standing out as a key focus area.

“We have come a long way with informing the community about the wonderful work that goes on in our district. Communication will continue to be a priority in every aspect of our work as we move forward with our strategic plan,” added VUSD Board President Jacqueline Gaebe.
