About Deputy Superintendent Thompson

Mark Thompson is the Deputy Superintendent for Visalia Unified School District. He has been in this role since 2025 and he oversees the Teaching & Learning Division, the Student Services Division, and School Leadership. He previously served as the Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Leadership, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, and as an Area Administrator for VUSD. Mr. Thompson brings over 22 years of educational and administrative leadership experience to his current role.
Assistant Superintendent Thompson previously served in various positions with the Tulare City Elementary School District as a Teacher, Vice Principal, and Principal from 2003 to 2015 before leaving to become a Principal in the Salem-Keizer School District for two years. He returned to Tulare City Elementary School District in 2017 as a Middle School Principal until he joined VUSD.
Mr. Thompson earned a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Administration from Chapman University in Orange, CA, and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Psychology from Fresno Pacific University in Fresno, CA.
Mr. Thompson is honored to serve the Visalia community as the Deputy Superintendent. He is passionate about helping administrators and teachers reach their fullest potential and improving academic outcomes for all students.
