Mission & Vision
The mission of the Visalia Unified School District Counseling Department is to provide our diverse student population with equal access to a high quality standards aligned comprehensive, data informed, culturally appropriate counseling program. Visalia Unified School Counselors are key stakeholders who work collaboratively to provide a safe and supportive environment academically, physically, and emotionally.
The vision of the Visalia Unified School District Counseling Department is to empower all students in their journey to become productive citizens and responsible, lifelong learners through their academic development, personal and social growth, and career exploration.
School Counselors
Visalia employs School Counselors at the pre-K through high school level. Currently, VUSD has 58 counselors across our school sites.
Visalia Unified has proudly partnered with American School Association (ASCA) to develop a data driven Comprehensive Counseling Department. Through the ASCA model, VUSD Counselors will offer counseling programs that data driven, included resources based on what students need for postsecondary readiness and success, and are delivered to all students systematically.
School Counselors help all students in these three domains:
- Academic- focuses on strategies and activities to support the advancement of each individual student's ability to achieve academic success
- Career- focuses on the skills, attitudes, and knowledge students need for a student to successful transition from school to postsecondary education and/or the world of work.
- Social/Emotional- focuses on supporting students managing emotions and learning to apply interpersonal skills.
School Counselor Qualifications
All school Counselors hold, at minimum, a master's degree in school counseling or related degree, and a clear PPS Credential.
