What is a Teacher Residency Program?
The Visalia Unified School District (VUSD) teacher residency program is a hands-on, immersive pathway into the teaching profession that combines classroom experience with professional learning and mentorship. Teacher residents work alongside an experienced mentor teacher in a classroom while completing coursework toward certification. This model allows aspiring educators to gradually take on teaching responsibilities, build strong instructional skills, and gain confidence —all before leading a classroom of their own.

Application Process
- Apply to Fresno Pacific’s Teacher Education program - apply.fresno.edu/apply
- Schedule an appointment with Makayla, FPU guidance counselor, makayla.puerner@fresno.edu
- Submit all the required documents for FPU application
- Once you’ve met the qualifications, Dr. Maria Lemus will schedule an admissions interview
- Applicants who meet the minimum requirements for RISE will complete the RISE application
- Selected applicants will be invited to a joint interview with Fresno Pacific University and Visalia Unified School District
