Balanced Instruction Model

VUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways have unique Model Curriculum Standards, but each CTE Pathway and Academy ensures that students have multiple opportunities to practice and master the California Standards for Career Ready Practice.

Tier-1 Embedded Practices

  • Students are recognized and valued in a safe environment through the implementation of essential routines and procedures
  • Students demonstrate learning in standards-based experiences that foster communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking through researched-based instructional strategies and intentional engagement structures
  • Students develop and embrace a growth mindset through reflection and opportunities to show growth in a supportive learning environment
  • Students have multiple opportunities to read, write, listen, and speak in all content areas

 

Grades TK-12

Critical Thinking

  • Students gather information through investigations to build on prior knowledge and experiences
  • Students work collaboratively to explain and justify their thinking
  • Students measure, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data through science investigations

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Students are curious and explore phenomena to build larger scientific concepts
  • Students apply scientific knowledge integrated with science and engineering practices
  • Students interpret technical information to construct arguments, models, and concepts, through investigations, reading, and writing
  • Students communicate their learning through interpreting information, drawing conclusions, and using academic language to construct explanations and deepen connections

Clear, Effective Communication

  • Listen actively and speak clearly and with purpose
  • Understand and use terminology that is common to the workplace
  • Consider the audience for their communication and prepare accordingly to ensure the desired outcome
