VUSD is committed to creating joyful, proficient readers and writers who meaningfully engage with grade level text. Literacy and language are at the heart of all content. Therefore, we are committed to providing a balance of foundational reading and critical thinking skills in order to meet individual student needs in reading, writing, and speaking and listening, preparing students to be college and career ready.

Tier-1 Embedded Practices

  • Students are recognized and valued in a safe environment through the implementation of essential routines and procedures
  • Students demonstrate learning in standards-based experiences that foster communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking through researched-based instructional strategies and intentional engagement structures
