VUSD TK receives the Golden Bell Award
The California School Boards Association (CSBA) has recognized Visalia Unified School District with the prestigious Golden Bell Award for its Blended and Non-Blended Universal Transitional Kindergarten (UTK) Program. Launched in 2022, this model unifies preschool and TK into a full-day, inclusive learning environment that strengthens language development, social-emotional growth, and early academic skills. Serving more than 2,000 students across 33 classrooms, the program has shown strong results, with blended-classroom students outperforming peers in key developmental areas. This award highlights VUSD’s commitment to equity, innovation, and student-centered early learning.
The VUSD School Board of Education, Superintendent Kirk Shrum, and Early Learning Director Leti Trevino were formally honored at the CSBA Annual Education Conference on December 4 in San Jose.
