ADULT BASIC EDUCATION
Adult Basic Education classes are offered to students with skills below the high school level. Students may also enroll in these classes for basic skills review in the event they have been absent from an educational setting for an extended period of time. This program can lead to preparation for the GED, high school diploma program, employability, or career advancement.
The diploma program is available to individuals 18 years or older who have not completed their high school requirement. Required courses area vailable morning, afternoon, and evening. There are several pathways for students to take in order to meet these requirements, including direct instruction or independent study. A placement test is required to assess skills for high school level classes. Counseling is available to assist you.
The GED® is a aligned with the Common Core State Standards. It is more rigorous and is designed to ensure career and college-readiness. You can enroll in GED® preparation classes at the Visalia Adult School.

Independent study allows adult students pursuing their high school diploma to complete most of their work at home on their own time. Students must attend a weekly appointment for one hour and complete 20 hours of assigned course work per week.
English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are designed for the limited English proficient student to learn to speak, read, and write the English language. Students will also learn math skills and knowledge of civics so they may pursue a higher education or vocational training.
