Christopher Pope was born in Dinuba, grew up in Orosi, and graduated from Orosi High School.  Before finishing his Liberal Arts Degree at Fresno Pacific University, Mr. Pope managed the family business, Pope’s Propane Service.


Mr. Pope and his wife, Melanie, have four children.  Their sons Aaron and Andrew both grew up in Visalia and are now married and enjoying successful careers, and their daughters Wilhelmina and Cosette are still busy as Visalia high school and middle school students.


Board Member Pope’s first teaching job was at Monson-Sultana Elementary School.  His family moved to Visalia in 2001, as he began teaching for Visalia Unified School District.  Mr. Pope is an active member of Parkside Chapel, where he works in children’s ministries and leadership.  He is also a volunteer mentor at Crown Valley Youth Ranch.


As an American Indian, Mr. Pope has worked as an officer in the California Teachers Association American Indian/Alaska Native Caucus, and currently serves as the Western Region Director for the Board of Directors of the National Education Association American Indian Caucus.


In 2020, Mr. Pope was recognized by CTA as the Tulare/KingsCounty State WHO Award recipient for exceptional professionalism/education services.


Board Member Pope is grateful to his constituents for their vote of confidence.  Having just retired from teaching in 2020, he brings his very recent and frontline experience with students and is looking forward to this opportunity to serve his community.
