Lucia D. Vazquez was born in Visalia, grew up in Goshen, and graduated from Mt. Whitney High School. Her large extended family has attended Visalia Unified schools for decades. While her daughter attended VUSD schools, Dr. Vazquez served as PTA President at Crowley Elementary, and she was a School Site Council member at Divisadero Middle School.
Dr. Vazquez received an Associate of Arts Degree from Fresno City College, a Bachelors Degree in Biology from the University of San Francisco, and a Master of Arts Degree in Literature from the University of California, Merced. Her focus was Young Adult Latina Literature. In 2019 she completed Doctorate in Educational Development & Organizational Leadership, her focus on the Characteristic Triad of Resilience.
Dr. Vazquez has many years of experience in nutrition education, working on many projects with various employers including Farmersville Unified School District, UC Cooperative Extension, UC Davis, and UC Berkeley. In 1982, she received her Emergency Teaching Credential in Math and Life Science and worked as a long term substitute.
Dr. Vazquez has been very active in the community, a member of the Tulare Kings Hispanic Round Table and Tulare County League of Mexican American Women. She is a member of the academic associations, Mujeres Activas en Literatura Y Cambio Social, MALCS (Women Active in Letters and Social Change), and the National Association for Chicano and Chicana Studies (NACCS). Locally, by March 2020 intends to join the AAUW American Association of University Women and the Tulare County League of Women Voters.
